Coney Island, NY – The King is back! After a one-year absence, competitive eating legend Joey “Jaws” Chestnut reasserted his dominance at the 2025 Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog Eating Contest, downing a staggering 70.5 hot dogs and buns to reclaim his coveted Mustard Belt.

Chestnut’s victory marks his 17th win in the iconic Coney Island spectacle, solidifying his status as the greatest competitive eater of all time. The Westfield, Indiana native, who was sidelined last year due to a contract dispute, wasted no time in proving he remains the undisputed champion.

From the opening bell, Chestnut took an early and decisive lead, leaving his fellow competitors in his wake. While he fell short of his all-time record of 76 hot dogs set in 2021, his 70.5 wieners were more than enough to secure a comfortable victory over last year’s champion, Patrick Bertoletti, who finished with 46.5.

The atmosphere on Coney Island was electric, with a massive crowd braving the summer heat to witness Chestnut’s much-anticipated return. Chants of “Joey! Joey!” filled the air as the 41-year-old methodically consumed the hot dogs, displaying the signature technique and relentless pace that have made him a global phenomenon.

Speaking after his win, a triumphant Chestnut expressed his joy at being back on the Coney Island stage. “This event means the world to me,” he said. “It’s a cherished tradition, a celebration of American culture, and a huge part of my life.”

His return comes after reaching an agreement with Major League Eating regarding past sponsorship conflicts. Chestnut clarified that Nathan’s is the only hot dog company he has ever worked with, and that he’s thrilled to have found common ground to participate in the event he loves.

The women’s competition also saw a familiar face on top, as Miki Sudo secured her 11th title, further cementing her own legacy in the sport.

But the day belonged to Joey Chestnut, whose triumphant return to the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest served as a powerful reminder of why he remains the undisputed king of the table
