Authorities discovered the body of missing 83-year-old Victoria Kong on Monday south of Gravelly Point. She had been missing since Friday.

Her body was found south of Gravelly Point off the George Washington Parkway about 30 feet from the bike trail in a wooded area at about 2 p.m.

Kong, from Gaithersburg, arrived at Reagan National at about 4 p.m. after flying from Barbados to Washington. She was visiting Barbados to see her son. Her family says she was supposed to be escorted off by wheelchair, but airport officials say she never showed up.

American Airlines released a statement saying onboard assistance was not requested, that the wheelchair waiting for Kong was not claimed after deplaning and that they are assisting authorities with their investigation.

Kong’s family, who lives in Maryland, said she stepped off a plane Friday night, left the airport on foot and later vanished.

Police spotted Kong on airport surveillance video twice. She was first seen in a taxi line at the arrivals curb and then walking away from the airport heading northbound on the bike trail along G.W. Parkway. That was around 6:30 Friday night.

Kalisse Anderson, Kong’s granddaughter, said, “We have been up and down the trails on G.W…in and out of the airport. We have talked to taxi dispatchers…airport employees…taxi drivers standing in line, joggers and bikers…’Have you seen our grandmother?'”

Kong’s family spent the weekend passing out fliers.
