Here’s Why A Democratic Gubernatorial Candidate Is Handing Out KKK Hoods

Democratic candidate for governor Brett Hulsey plans to hand out white Ku Klux Klan-style hoods to Wisconsin Republicans as they gather for their annual convention Friday to highlight what he says are their racist policies. Hulsey, a state representative from Madison who is white, came into the state Capitol press room on Thursday to show off a hood he says he made with his daughter’s sewing machine using curtain material he purchased for $1. “It’s a Wisconsin Republican Party hat,” Hulsey said. “And people can interpret it any way they want.” Read more.

V. Stiviano’s Lawyer Says Her Friend Leaked Donald Sterling’s Racist Rant

Stiviano’s lawyer, Siamak Nehoray, told the AP on Thursday that the hour-long recording was leaked to TMZ by her friend. Stiviano recorded the conversation on her phone and forwarded two snippets electronically. She asked her buddy to hold on to them for “safekeeping,” which the friend apparently took to mean “sell them to TMZ.” Read more.

The president of the Los Angeles chapter of the NAACP has resigned, following scrutiny of his decision to give Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling an award for promoting civil rights. Georgia Governor Signs Law to Drug Test Some Welfare Recipients

Apparently Georgia didn’t learn from Florida. On Tuesday, Georgia Governor Nathan Deal signed legislation  requiring some applicants for food stamps and welfare benefits to undergo a drug test. The bill would require those people who authorities felt had “reasonable suspicion” of drug use.  As far as what reasonable suspicion is, maybe breathing?  If a person failed their drug test they would temporarily lose benefits. Chicago Police Plan Surge In Street Patrols To Combat Violence

With the number of shootings in Chicago already climbing with the temperatures, police are being dispatched by the hundreds on overtime to high-crime neighborhoods, parks, public housing buildings and other spots around the city to combat the spike in crime that comes every summer. “The summer months is our busy season … and we have to ramp up our response to violence in the city,” Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy said in an interview with The Associated Press.
