The 22-year-old bystander who filmed Eric Garner’s fatal arrest was arrested Saturday on a charge of gun possession, Staten Live reports. The man, Ramsey Orta, and a teenage woman, identified by police as Alba Lekaj, were arrested about 10 p.m. after leaving a hotel in Staten Island, N.Y., the report says. Read more.

Dems Hope FLOTUS Can Win November Voters

The GOP has also shown disinterest and lack of approval for many bills and reforms not only being made by President Obama, but FLOTUS as well. From her husband’s immigration reform proposals to her anti-obesity campaign, it seems as though the GOP has it out for the Obamas.

With that, the Democratic party hopes that Michelle will use her platform and power to raise awareness (and funds) to Democrats who will be voting in the November elections. With the GOP resistance being so strongly voiced, Dems hope Mrs. Obama will be able to represent the Obamas and their political platform to spaces that are reluctant to welcome the president. Read more.

Homeless Man With Amazing Voice Sings John Legend, Stuns All Of Us

Byon Artrell McCullough, of Florence, South Carolina, became homeless when, after serving time in prison, he had no job and no family to come home to, according to the New York Daily News. He decided to support himself by sharing his beautiful voice with strangers. In a video uploaded to YouTube, McCullough, aka “No Cash,” proves he’s got serious pipes.

With a “Will Sang for Food” sign slung around his neck, the 28-year-old covers John Legend’s “All of Me,” and serenades two women on the street. When he starts singing at the 0:48 mark, you can’t help but be blown away by McCullough’s silky vocals. He gives a sensational performance that would give John Legend himself a run for his money. Read more.

Ole Miss Will Take Steps To Distance University From Confederate Past

The University of Mississippi, which has long struggled to distance itself from plantation-era imagery, is renaming a street known as Confederate Drive and adding historical context to Old South symbols that have long stood on the Oxford campus.

“Our unique history regarding race provides not only a larger responsibility for providing leadership on race issues, but also a large opportunity – one we should and will embrace,” Chancellor Dan Jones wrote in the report that was developed with the help of a university committee and outside consultants. Read more.

GOP Lawmaker Asks If He Can Join Black Caucus Because He Likes Rap Music

A Republican state legislator who has previously found himself in hot water over his Facebook posts about domestic violence, black women and mental health doesn’t seem to have refined his social media filter.

On Wednesday, New Hampshire Rep. Kyle Tasker expressed his disbelief that the conservative American Legislative Exchange Council had hosted the National Black Caucus of State Legislators at ALEC’s annual meeting in Dallas this week.

“How do I join the white caucus of state legislators?” Tasker asked, in response to a post by Jordan Ulery, a fellow Republican in New Hampshire’s state house. “Caucuses are merely groups of people with similar likes/dislikes,” Ulery helpfully explained in response to Tasker. “Personally I long for the day of character, not color being again the guiding principle.”

“Yea that was kind of my point,” Tasker replied. “So what are the likes/dislikes of the black caucus that precludes white people from joining? I’m fond of rap music…” Tasker then posted a link to a music video for “Country Grammar,” a Nelly song. Read more.
