Karma! St. Louis Reporter Loses Job After Sick Michael Brown Joke
Another day, another example of folks losing their jobs because of something problematic they’ve said on social media. The most recent person was a St. Louis reporter who was given a pink slip for making a disgusting joke about slain teen Michael Brown and his mother.
According to the St. Louis American, when hearing that Brown’s mother, Lezley McSpadden would be at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, Fox 2 News reporter Bobby Hughes took his Facebook page to say that McSpadden will probably “talk about the new lead diet she’s endorsed. Five servings and you can lose 200 lbs in two years easily.”
Clearly, his joke didn’t go unnoticed as local Black police officers immediately called for Hughes’ dismissal. Not to mention, other Black employees at Fox 2 planned an “emergency meeting” with the station general manager to discuss the incident, the newspaper noted. And while Hughes did apologize, Fox 2 didn’t care. Hughes is no longer an employee.
We swear, folks are so brazen with their racism and disrespect. One day, they are going to learn.
#BoyBye: Donald Trump Blasts Muslim Family Who Spoke About Their Dead Soldier Son At The DNC
One of the most powerful and moving speeches at the recent Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia was that of Khizr Khan, the father of a fallen Muslim captain in the U.S. Army. With his wife by his side, Khan handed down a scathing critique of Donald Trump, questioning his racist rhetoric, his lack of patriotism and declaring that the reality star has never sacrificed anything in his life.
With Trump being thin-skinned, he went on the offensive and verbally attacked the Khans insinuating that Mr. Khan is sexist because of his religion.
In an interview with ABC News, he stooped even lower than usual telling George Stephanopoulos, “If you look at his wife, she was standing there. She had nothing to say. She probably, maybe she wasn’t allowed to have anything to say. You tell me.”
He then proceeded to say: “I think I’ve made a lot of sacrifices. I work very, very hard. I’ve created thousands and thousands of jobs, tens of thousands of jobs, built great structures. I’ve had tremendous success. I think I’ve done a lot.”
Sure you have.
In response to the GOP presidential candidate’s blatant xenophobia, Ghazala Khan wrote an op-ed for the Washington Post, explaining that her silence wasn’t about being controlled by her husband or their faith, but by grief and sadness around her son’s death.
“I cannot walk into a room with pictures of Humayun. For all these years, I haven’t been able to clean the closet where his things are — I had to ask my daughter-in-law to do it. Walking onto the convention stage, with a huge picture of my son behind me, I could hardly control myself. What mother could? Donald Trump has children whom he loves. Does he really need to wonder why I did not speak?” she asked.
Trump really ought to be ashamed of himself.
Praise! Netflix To Launch Motown-Based Cartoon Series Produced By Smokey Robinson
Netflix has some pretty great news for soul music lovers: They are creating a Motown-based animated series.
Produced by legendary singer Smokey Robinson and created by Josh Wakely, the untitled series will follow an 8-year-old Detroit boy named Ben who discovers that he can bring street art to life. Ben will also use his powers to help revitalize his city with the help of Motown’s soulful music. It’s also being reported that contemporary singers will cover classic songs originally performed by Robinson, Marvin Gaye, The Jackson 5, Lionel Richie, The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and many more, Netlfix confirmed in a recent statement.
“I am thrilled to be a part of this wonderful new series that will embrace the magic of Motown and present our songs to a whole new generation of fans and their entire families. I’m so impressed with Josh’s creative vision for the series and can’t wait to play my part in bringing it to the world,” Robinson said.
“Having been raised on the music of Motown, I am very grateful to have been entrusted with these songs as I draw inspiration from the stories and characters found within them,” Wakely said. “Considering the talent we have on board paired with the Netflix global platform, our goal is to create something extraordinary that can be enjoyed across generations.”
We see you Netflix stepping up your game!
