UNIFYING LESSON PRINCIPLE:

Differences of race, class and gender make it hard for people to get along. How can we live in harmony? Paul told the Galatians that through Christ believers have received the Spirit, making us heirs of God and bringing us into a community of oneness where human differences are no longer divisive.

CONCLUDING REFLECTION:

Just as Paul pleaded for righteousness by faith and not by works, we must make the same pleas today. Our hesitation to embrace grace is that it seems too easy. It feels as though there is no standard, no required expectation. What we fail to realize is that Christ is seeking a people who will voluntarily by faith honor His high standards of righteousness, just as He voluntarily carried that old rugged cross. He is not looking for people who will obey out of obedience to rules and laws; He is looking for a people who will pursue obedience simply because they trust that His Word is true.

PRAYER:

Dear God, we confess that sometimes we seek to transform your Gospel into a teaching that is easier for us to measure and feel good about ourselves. Too often we find our value in being able to impress others with our obedience rather than focusing on impressing you with our faith. Keep us focused on you, centered in grace, and grounded in your love. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
