The Gospel Set Us Free

For many years I was ashamed of the Gospel. And the more I think about it, the more I realize I never really understood the Gospel until a few years ago when Christ truly saved me. I often found myself shying away from the opportunity to share this truth to others, afraid of the offense it might cause. Once we have a strong understanding of the Gospel and believe we are wretched sinners, we can finally be free from eternal bondage…and instead of being ashamed, we will begin to find it extremely difficult to keep this good news bottled up.

So how does the Gospel free sinners like you and me? God demands the righteousness that we don’t have, so the only hope for us is that God himself would gift us the righteousness that he demands. This is the good news…this is the Gospel. The weight of perfection, shame, pride, and regret are completely lifted off our shoulders because Christ fulfilled them for us. And instead of inheriting the wrath of God, Christ took upon his wrath by dying on the cross for us.

This good news is the only thing that will truly rescue someone from eternal suffering and bring forever hope into his or her lives. So, sisters, go preach the Gospel…don’t be ashamed. The Gospel is the most freeing gift we could ever receive.

Pray:

Father, thank You for sending Your Son to be the propitiation for my sins. Thank You for saving me although I am unworthy of being saved. Your grace has been so prevalent in my life—help me to spread this good news of joy and mercy to those in need around me. Take my shame and turn it into boldness for You and Your word. I am a wretched sinner, yet in You I am free from bondage.

Your Turn:

Preach someone the Gospel this week…even yourself. Whatever you’re going through in life, let the Gospel resonate in your heart and be thankful for such a good and gracious Father.

Scripture:  Romans 1:16-17 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.  For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.
