When you enter a business in Montgomery County, you will now be asked if you would like a bag with your purchase. If you choose to take the bag then it will cost you 5cents per bag.
The tax applies to paper and plastic bags at all places where goods are sold – not just grocery stores and restaurants. There are exceptions for:
– dry cleaning bags
– prescription drug bags at pharmacies
– newspaper, garbage, and yard waste bags
– bags at farmers market
