Wednesday afternoon, members of the Montgomery County Council are expected to meet with representatives from the executive branch to discuss the Silver Spring Transit Center. The council called for a meeting after learning that Metro sent a letter to the county saying it would not accept or run the transit center. WMATA told the county it “has concerns for the design and construction for the project.” WMATA officials say “deficiencies of the design and construction of the facility…are of the magnitude and severity that even if repaired…would place an inordinate maintenance burden onto WMATA.” Construction began in 2008, but the center still has not opened. The meeting, which is set for 2pm Wednesday, is not listed on Executive Ike Leggett’s schedule at his point. It is unclear at this point if he will attend the meeting.
