UNIFYING LESSON PRINCIPLE: People desire and appreciate faithfulness in all their relationships. How are we to respond to the faithfulness of others? Deuteronomy 4-5 set forth obedience as God’s expectation of Israel in response to God’s faithful deliverance.
CONCLUDING REFLECTION: Moses commanded Israel to obey God’s law so they would enjoy the Lord’s blessings and the surrounding pagan nations would recognize Israel’s wisdom and understanding. According to Moses, none of what God had in store for His chosen people would be possible unless they were obedient to His commands. In this case, though, Israel’s obedience would be a good example for the nations around them. Respect for Israel implies respect for Yahweh, the one from whom Israel had received the laws.
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, teach us how to live in obedience to your will. Grant unto us wisdom, knowledge and understanding in order that our lives might be a blessing to the world. Forgive us when we fall short of your expectations for us, and continue to teach us how to walk in conformity to your will for our lives. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen
