UNIFYING LESSON PRINCIPLE: People seek a champion of justice. Who can and will defend and uphold the cause of justice? In Matthew 21, Jesus upholds God’s justice in the Temple, fulfilling Isaiah 42’s vision of the Messiah.
CONCLUDING REFLECTION: In Jesus Christ, who is God’s perfect servant, one sees the type of ministry foretold by Isaiah. He talked publicly with immoral women, socialized with sinners and tax collectors, exorcized demons, healed the lame, and gave sight to the blind. He was indeed a bringer of justice to the nations. Matthew 9:36 describes Him in these words: “When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them.” It was by the Holy Spirit that Christ fulfilled his Father’s mission. Jesus completes what He begins.
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, in the spirit of Jesus Christ, our prophet, priest, and king, enable us to be people of justice who bring balance, order and fair treatment to all in the world. Give us the strength to live out our days pursuing peace, love, justice, and kindness to all. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
