In the bible, Jesus and Paul compare sin to yeast. They both cause whatever is mixed with it to rise and grow. When sin is not dealt with immediately, it spreads like a deadly disease, sowing confusion, eventually destroying the unity and integrity of the church. Sin can also dilute the effectiveness of the gospel by sending the message that some behavior, although forbidden by scripture, will be tolerated.
As followers of Christ, our main responsibilities are to make other disciples by drawing men and women to Him; be living testimonies of our faith; and to spread the Gospel throughout the world. Part of sharing the good news is pointing out why one needs the Savior so that they admit they are sinners, repent of those sins and invite the Lord into their hearts. This cannot be done if the world sees us as hypocrites who cannot be trusted.
Galations 6:1 says “Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently. But watch yourself, or you may also be tempted…”
