Arlington County officials have adopted a fresh strategy to encourage drivers to reduce their speed in school zones. This shift comes in response to previous initiatives that fell short of their expectations.

Starting last year, the county has been lowering the speed limits in school zones to 20 miles per hour. This change applies to areas like 19th Street N near Cardinal Elementary School, where residents have observed that many drivers still exceed the speed limit.

The county is initiating the Tactical Speed Humps Pilot Project, which involves the installation of speed humps in three specific locations where officials have consistently observed the highest speeds. These locations are near Cardinal, Gunston Middle School, and Hoffman Boston Elementary School.
